Every part of the municipality
Locksmith Benimagrell, Lloixa, Salafranca and the rest of Sant Joan
Sant Joan d’Alacant is only 9.64 km², but it is cut in two by the N-332 and threaded with the old camins of the huerta. Benimagrell, Lloixa, Salafranca, Fabraquer Nord, the town centre and the streets by the hospital are all covered, and so are the neighbours just over the boundary.

The one thing that helps most: a WhatsApp location pin. After that, the name of the part of town, and for the partidas the name of the house or the nearest camí as well as the street.
Part by part
The seven parts of Sant Joan, and what to say for each
| Part | Where | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| The town centre Plaça d’Espanya · Plaça de la Constitució · Plaça Maisonnave · Calle Mayor · carrer Sant Antoni · Rambla de la Llibertat · Avinguda Jaume I | Round the parish church and the town hall, about 40 m above the sea | The old core and the streets that filled in round it as the town grew from the 1960s on. On Saturday mornings the street market takes over carrer Mercat and carrer Ordana, so give the nearest corner that is not one of them. |
| Benimagrell Ermita de Sant Roc · Benimagrell market | The old hamlet on the far side of the N-332, now joined to the town by building | It has the oldest hermitage in the municipality and its own weekend market on the carretera de Valencia. The N-332 runs between it and the centre, so say which side of the road you are on. |
| The carretera de Valencia Avenida de Benidorm · the shopping centres and retail parks | The N-332 as it crosses the municipality | A long run of shops, large stores and leisure centres either side of the road. Car parks are big and look alike: the name of the shop you parked by helps more than a street number. |
| The hospital and the campus Hospital Universitario de Sant Joan · UMH Health Sciences Campus · Instituto de Neurociencias · Avenida Pintor Pérez Gil · Torre de la Cadena | The south of the municipality, towards Alicante | The university hospital (opened in 1985), the Miguel Hernández University faculties of Medicine and Pharmacy, and the flats and rooms let to the people who study and work there. |
| Lloixa camí de Lloixa · Torre Bonanza | A partida of the old huerta, on the camí de Lloixa | Old huerta land with a 16th-century watchtower beside the camí, and recent pairs of semi-detached houses and terraced houses with their own plots. |
| Salafranca Torre Salafranca · Salafranca-Lloixa | A partida and estate of the old huerta | Named after its 16th-century tower. Detached and terraced houses with gardens and gates, where the name of the house or the estate matters as much as the street. |
| Fabraquer Nord Torre Ansaldo · IES Luis García Berlanga · Camí del Serení | The northern side, towards El Campello | The Torre Ansaldo stands here, next to the Luis García Berlanga secondary school. Fabraquer is also the name of a district of El Campello, so say that you are on the Sant Joan side. |
Smaller named places in the 03550 postcode are covered too: Rajoletes, Las Mezquitas, La Font, Frank Espinós, Benialí, Maigmona.
The landscape
A town that grew out of its irrigation channels
The town’s own tourism office describes Sant Joan as the geographical centre of the old Huerta de Alicante. Its fields were watered by channels that started from the Monnegre river, controlled by the Tibi reservoir, which the same source calls the oldest dam in Europe. The towers that still stand among the houses, Salafranca, Bonanza, La Cadena and Ansaldo, were built between the late 15th and the 17th centuries to watch for Barbary pirates.
That history is why the partidas are laid out the way they are: houses along old camins rather than on a grid, names that belong to fincas and towers rather than to streets. It is also why a street number alone sometimes is not enough, and why a pin is.
Over the boundary
The neighbouring towns, just as close
Sant Joan borders Alicante to the south, Mutxamel to the west and El Campello to the north and east. Call-outs reach these places as well:
- Mutxamel
- El Campello
- Playa de San Juan (Alicante)
Playa de San Juan, despite the name, is not in Sant Joan d’Alacant: it is a beach district of the city of Alicante, about two kilometres away. How to tell the two apart when you give an address.
